Should we go East or West or split up? You decide! Writing effective software prototypes to prove or disprove an approach to a difficult problem is an art as much as a science. As a prototyping software developer, you will often not have a clear specification but rather you will work with experts in mathematics and data modeling to develop approaches which do work. This position requires someone with initiative, lots of creativity and the ability to question the status quo in constructive and productive ways. There will be some iterative work to just understand difficult problems enough to define them precisely and then fully enjoy that great feeling of success when a prototype is far better than production code from any company. We now have 10 offices outside the US and customers in many regions of the world. However, we still have that small company culture and our forte is solving difficult problems in a way that is practical and leads to greater business success for our customers. Our product and services focus on the detection of financial crime such as money laundering, terrorist financing, and fraud. Our customers are banks, brokerages, money service bureaus, and insurance companies. Very much a man vs. machine game here, far beyond the simple pattern detection of the last decade. Primary Responsibilities:
Design and develop software prototypes of specific algorithms or sets of algorithms to solve complex numerical problems Test prototypes against baseline results to assess effectiveness of new approaches Document promising prototypes so that the product development team can implement the algorithms into the main product
Required Qualifications:
Demonstrated ability to write good, well documented prototyping software for one or more difficult problems Understanding of the software prototyping and testing process Good working knowledge of Java, C, Perl, and SQL languages Experience programming in a Linux environment Strong background in mathematics Strong written and oral communications skills
Helpful:
familiarity with Mathematica, a modeling tool personal interest and previous projects in data visualization interest in international business and the financial services industry
